12-Day Journey on the Peace River

Nothing refreshes and renews like a nice, long, peaceful trip. This trip lasts 12 days — 11 nights away — from the town of Peace River to the village of Fort Vermilion, some 430 km downstream. This means you average about 36 km per day, which is a nice pace, giving you time to stop for breaks, explore side streams, set up camp, and enjoy your mornings and evenings. The day before you begin your journey, you will stay at the gorgeous Wild Rose Guest House, located near the Peace River, where you can soak in the hot tub while enjoying a beautiful view of the valley. After you arrive in Fort Vermilion, 12 days later, you will stay at the lovely Country Gardens Bed & Breakfast Plus. Please visit both B & B’s websites for more details!

The day before your trip, make your way to Peace River and the beautiful Wild Rose Guest House. We’ll review some safety items that evening, and bright and early the next morning, start you on your journey. In 1792, Alexander Mackenzie, on his historic trip to reach the Pacific Ocean, paddled this very river upstream and then wintered near the confluence of the Peace and Smoky Rivers — very near where you’ll start your journey. You’ll have it easy though, going downstream — North — towards Fort Vermilion. A few nights, you should be able to stay at established campsites, but most of the time you’ll be backcountry camping. We will suggest possible camping spots and places to stop and explore. You’ll have a SPOT GPS Tracker to check in with us regularly and let us know how you are progressing. When you arrive, you’ll stay at the lovely Country Gardens B & B. You only have to paddle about 36 km per day, a modest amount, and if you choose to paddle more and arrive early, we’ll keep you entertained in our corner of the province until the “drive back” date. You can do a day paddle on one of our other rivers, explore Hay-Zama Lake, explore our unique region, or simply relax! If you need or want to return to Peace River early, we can do that too.

Call us soon to book your trip — We recommend you start on a Monday, after spending the weekend thoroughly checking all your gear, buying and organizing food, and traveling to Peace River. Or you can book our full-service all-inclusive package, which includes all your equipment and food.
